Leaders are called by service, not by status.
Jake has lived a life of dedicated service, both to his country and improving the lives of others. As a youth, he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and became a decorated Veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. He then continued his service while an undergraduate student at North Carolina A & T State University by volunteering to organize other college students throughout North Carolina so that their voices could be heard.
As a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, Jake worked with citizens who were attempting to enter the building and construct trades by assisting them with developing life skills and overcoming employment barriers. He lives what he speaks – knowing that leadership isn’t positional but about impacting lives.
Jake Wheatley was elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2002. Quickly, his passion for service propelled him to be appointed to the Appropriations Committee, one of only two freshman legislators in the history of the Commonwealth to serve in that capacity. He has leveraged his leadership in Harrisburg to advocate for improvements in education, to increase workforce opportunities for residents and Minority and Women-owned businesses, and to be a voice for youth and families.
Jake now serves as the Chairman of the Finance Committee, where he continues to grow in his ability to speak on behalf of the constituents of the 19th Legislative District and influence policies to positively affect all Pennsylvanians. He remains a leader with a passion for the People and an unrelenting drive to serve others.
